Mechanical Lead - Rotating Equipment

New Plymouth, New Zealand

Are you an experienced mechanical professional with a solid background in pumps, motors, and gear drives? We're looking for a Mechanical Lead to oversee rotating equipment maintenance for our clients across the Wellington region.

This is a hands-on leadership role - ideal for someone with a trade background who enjoys being in the field, solving problems, and keeping critical infrastructure running at its best.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Overhauling pumps and other rotating equipment
  • Installing and aligning pumps, motors, geared drives, and other rotating machinery
  • Supporting installation and commissioning of other mechanical equipment
  • Diagnosing faults and performing root cause analysis
  • Conducting preventative and breakdown maintenance
  • Collaborating with client operations teams to ensure equipment reliability and safety
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance records
  • Mentoring junior mechanical staff and contractors.

What You'll Bring:

  • A mechanical trade qualification (e.g. Fitter Turner, Maintenance Engineer, or equivalent)
  • 10+ years of practical experience with rotating equipment, ideally in water or industrial sectors
  • Strong skills in alignment, vibration checks, and mechanical diagnostics
  • A proactive approach with the ability to lead a small team or work independently
  • Solid communication and organisational skills
  • A strong commitment to health, safety, and quality

Nice to Have:

  • Experience across other mechanical trades (e.g. fabrication, fitting, machining, or hydraulics)
  • Knowledge of water/wastewater treatment plant equipment
  • Familiarity with MS office and MS Teams
